Proper Multisport training with set goals such as a race or event can be complex, and knowing exactly what to do to meet your goals is a huge part of the battle! I am a Miami-based triathlon coach, personal trainer and adult learn to swim coach. Whether you're training in Miami for an Ironman or on the other side of the world, I will provide you with a fully customized training plan uploaded into Training Peaks*. First, we will discuss your goals, strengths, and weaknesses. To begin, we will conduct several tests to determine your level of fitness and threshold zones. Then, we will develop a custom weekly mix of swimming, biking, running, strength, flexibility, and recovery work. Proper technique and workout efficiency will also make race day faster and more enjoyable for you. To accomplish that, I will provide feedback on your run, swim, and bike workouts, highlighting which key elements to practice so you can generate the maximum amount of power with proper form. We will also focus extensively on your nutrition, hydration, and sodium intake, as these are crucial parts of long course triathlon training. For those involved in the Miami or other triathlon clubs I'm very flexible and available to answer any questions or concerns that may arise along your journey! (*Training Peaks is a software program where I upload your workouts, and it can sync with your bike trainer, smart watch and computer
I started racing in 2016 after completing a half marathon and a few sprint triathlons. Throughout the year, I felt I wasn't reaching my optimum potential and had no clear idea on how to improve. I continued self-training through 2017, but my race season culminated in a challenging performance during the Miami Ironman 70.3. My swim was subpar, I struggled on my bike, and I had to walk most of the run due to severe cramping and exhaustion. Shortly after that race, I injured myself and was sidelined for almost four months. I decided it was time to seek help from a trainer to improve my swim technique. A friend recommended Mike, and I met him for a session in March 2018. I had already committed to racing Ironman Chattanooga in September 2018. During our session, he inquired about my race plans and whether I had a training plan in place. I shared my upcoming races and mentioned that I didn’t have a trainer. This led to a brief conversation about race planning and an in-depth discussion about nutrition, which was eye-opening for me. I had never considered 95% of what he discussed, so I signed up with him that day. Mike is a treasure trove of knowledge regarding training and on-course nutrition, and he excels in coaching proper form, technique, and balance across disciplines throughout the training cycles. He is always available to discuss improvements, provide feedback on any changes I want to make, and create training schedules that cater specifically to my lifestyle and goals. I've learned through conversations with Mike that many triathlon clubs in Miami often adopt a one-size-fits-all approach, which isn’t effective for everyone. In addition to customizing my training schedule to align with my race goals, Mike fosters a sense of community and camaraderie. From the moment I started training with him, I felt part of something larger. Since joining Mike, I have completed two full Ironmans, two full marathons including NYC, and numerous other road races and triathlons, even winning a few and reaching the podium for others. All of this was achieved while staying injury-free, meeting many new friends, traveling to great race locations, and having a fantastic time. I couldn't recommend anyone more highly than Mike! If you're looking to truly enjoy the essence of fitness and racing, Mike Estevez, the Miami Tri Guy is your guy!
Best coach ever!! Mike was super amazing and made sure all my fears were gone before my race. He drove me three hours to Clermont for my Miami Ironman 2.4-mile race to help alleviate my anxiety. A damn legend he is! After my race, I thought I was going to be a wreck and hurting, but I went for a run the next day and felt amazing, which shows how well I was trained. Keep in mind that when I started training with Coach Mike, the Miami Trii Guy, I couldn't swim the length of a pool, and the most I had ever biked was 90 miles a decade ago. From not really biking or ever swimming and only running occasionally, he got me so ready! I am an artist, painter, and sculptor, and because of Mike, I can now add Ironman to my list of accomplishments in the triathlon in Miami!
Coach Mike Estevez has an approach that pushes you past your comfort zone, allowing you to achieve what you never imagined. I began participating in triathlons when I was 50 years old. After racing for three years, I still wasn't getting the results I desired. I had Coach Mike work with me a couple of times before a race, and with his help, I finally made the podium in my age group. Months later, I was 'tricked' into signing up for a half Ironman, which meant I needed Coach Mike to transition from sprint races to a Half Ironman. In the seven months he has been coaching me, I have progressed from sprint races to competing in international races with the Miami Tri Guy. During these seven months, I have participated in six races and made the podium all six times. Mike's training is straightforward and easy to follow. Through his coaching, I have become a stronger, faster runner, swimmer, and cyclist. I went from having cycling as my weakest event to my strongest. Most importantly, I believe Mike's coaching is designed to ensure his clients become stronger and faster without injury. He takes a personal interest in his clients and is always positive and encouraging. Mike is readily available through phone, text, and email to answer any questions. I know I couldn't have achieved what I have so far without his help
If you want to chase down your big goals, Mike’s the guy that will get you there. I went from trying a sprint triathlon out of curiosity to finishing an Ironman in Miami with a smile on my face in just one year, and it was all due to his training plan. He’s creative, funny, and encouraging, and always worked with my schedule. Hiring Coach Mike, the Miami Tri Guy helped me stay motivated, and I can't thank Mike enough for his support in this journey through triathlon in Miami!
Working with Coach Mike is AWESOME! I’ve found him to be incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, especially for those preparing for the Miami Iron Man. He pushes me to do my best and is super friendly, always available for the support I need to achieve my goals in triathlon in Miami. Thanks for all your help, Mike!
